Gary Kirsten breached his contract terms, says PCB Chairman

Gary Kirsten

Gary Kirsten recently resigned from the post of Pakistan’s white ball coach just six months after being appointed.

Reports were that Kirsten was not happy after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gave the full authority of selecting the players to the selection committee. White ball coach Kirsten and red-ball coach Jason Gillespie don’t have a say in selecting the players anymore.

After all this, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has issued a statement saying Gary Kirsten breached the contract with PCB. And after that, he eventually resigned from the position of Pakistan’s head coach (white-ball cricket).

Naqvi said, “He broke his contract with the PCB and made some breaches. He ended the contract with us. We will have a new white ball head coach by the end of this month because Jason Gillespie has only agreed to manage the team in Australia for the white ball matches on an interim basis. He is more focused on his role as red-ball head coach. The team will have a new white-ball coach for the Zimbabwe tour.”

Although there’s no official confirmation of what exactly Kirsten did to breach the contract. Reports are that it was because he was not involved in the squad announcement for the Zimbabwe and Australia tour and in naming the new white-ball captain.

Lots of changes in Pakistan cricket. First Babar and Shaheen to now Gary Kirsten

Recently there have been lots of changes in Pakistan cricket. Firstly Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah were dropped from the test squad against New Zealand. And now, Gary Kirsten has resigned from his post of the white-ball coach. They also got a new white-ball captain Muhammad Rizwan after Babar stepped down.

Opener Fakhar Zaman was also excluded from the central contract. It was after he raised questions about Babar’s exclusion from the test squad. He was given a show-cause notice. Now the update is that a committee will be formed soon to oversee Zaman’s case. Most probably he’ll be included in the central contract.

Pakistan will be now on a tour of Australia where they’ll play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. This will be Muhammad Rizwan’s first assignment after being appointed as the white-ball captain.
