Former England pacer and one of the best fast bowlers in world cricket James Anderson has put his name in the upcoming mega auction for IPL 2025.
The 42-year-old from England retired from international cricket earlier this year at the age of 42. Talking to Sky Sports, Anderson said that he wants to play cricket again. He also said that he is fit and really wants to play in the IPL.
Anderson also hinted that he’s open for a coaching role as well if he doesn’t get picked in the auction.
“The whole point of going to the auction, I think, I play cricket again. Whether I get picked up or not is a different matter. There’s definitely a feeling inside of me that I’ve got more to offer, in some shape or form. So, however long down the line that might be, in whatever capacity that might be I’m not sure yet”, he said.
He further added, “But I’m really keen to play. I feel really fit, I’ve been bowling still, ticking over, so I feel like I’m in a good place and I’d love to have an opportunity to play somewhere”.
On being asked if he has been approached by any IPL franchise he said, “Nothing yet. We’ll just have to wait and see, keep· my fingers crossed and see what happens”.
James Anderson; one of the best pacers in world cricket
The former English pacer has 704 wickets in test cricket. He’s the third-highest wicket-taker in test cricket after Muthiah Muralidaran (800) and Shane Warne (708). Anderson has the most wickets as a pacer in test cricket.
Anderson made his debut in 2003 against Zimbabwe and played his last test match in July 2024 against the West Indies. He last played a T20 game back in 2009 against South Africa.
He has 18 wickets in 19 T20Is and 41 wickets in 44 T20s. Anderson was known for his skill of swinging the ball. It will be really interesting if he gets picked up by any franchise in the upcoming mega auction for IPL 2025.
