Former Australian wicket-keeper Brad Haddin has said that India can’t stand up against Australia’s fast bowlers.
The much anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will start in 10 days. Australia’s former wicket-keeper was with former captain Aaron Finch on the LiSTNR Sport podcast.
The first test will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth from 22nd November. Perth’s pitch is known for its pace and bounce. Haddin said that he thinks the Indian batters will struggle against the Aussie quicks. Talking about opener Yashasvi Jaiswal he said that he’s not sure how the southpaw will handle the bounce on the Australian pitches.
Haddin said, “I don’t think that the Indian batters are going to stand up to our quicks. I know Jaiswal is a really good player, but he hasn’t come out and seen Australia before, so I’m not sure whether he is going to handle the bounce. Opening in Perth is hard work”.
“Australia’s top order will also struggle against India’s fast bowling”, says Aaron Finch
Former opening batter and Australian captain, Aaron Finch pointed out that the Australian top order will also struggle against India’s pace bowlers. He said that Rishabh Pant and Alex Carey will be important for their respective sides down the order.
“I think the key could be Alex Carey and Rishabh Pant, the two wicketkeepers are going to be so important”, Finch said.
“At one time or the other in the series, the top order will get knocked over. Both fast-bowling attacks are so good that they will get on a roll and knock over the top order. So for me, it’s that crucial role of Alex at No. 7 and Rishabh at 6 likely. Carey is aggressive, and Rishabh is aggressive. The game is going to go one or two ways quickly. And I think that will be very important”, he concluded.
India has the Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep and Harshit Rana in their pace attack. Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed are the reserves. The Australian pace attack will have the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland.
