The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is set to take place on November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It will be the second time in a row that the event is taking place overseas, after Dubai served as the venue last year.
The auction is set to have an Accelerated process process from Player 117, which will see the start of Set 18 (Uncapped Batters 2). This phase will cover all players from 117 to 574 on November 25 and the teams will have to submit their names by 10 PM on November 24.
The franchises will have to nominate players who they are more than likely to bid on or have a bit of interest in securing their services. Those players will be part of the auction on Monday, and might receive a contract from the teams.
The Accelerated process is being taken to use to expedite and make the auction a smooth experience for the franchises and viewers. In their letter to the franchises, BCCI had informed them of the Accelerated process (via Cricbuzz):
“For your planning purposes please note, subject to timings it is envisaged that the accelerated process will start after player no.116. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 117 – 574, Franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group by 10 PM on the evening of 24th November.”
Moreover, after the Accelerated process, franchises will be asked whether they are interested in the players who have gone unsold in the auction. Those players who mark the presence in the list will go under the hammer, before the auction gets completed.
