Former Indian player and head coach, Ravi Shastri has expressed his thoughts on Rishabh Pant and his comeback after the freak car accident back in 2022.
The Indian wicket-keeper batter met an accident while driving to Roorke from New Delhi. He made a comeback to international and IPL cricket earlier this year as he was out of action for more than a year.
Talking about the incident, Pant had said that it was something spiritual alongside his quick thinking that prevented the situation from escalating. Pant was talking about his quick thinking to break the car’s window to escape.
The 27-year-old sustained a severe knee injury and it needed reconstructive surgery on three ligaments in his knee.
“This experience changed Rishabh Pant’s view of life”: Ravi Shastri
Talking about the incident, Shastri said that one wouldn’t have given him hope in hell to return to the cricket field. He met Pant in the hospital and saw him in terrible shape.
Shastri said, “Honestly if you had seen him, you would not have given him hope in hell to play cricket again,” Shastri said. “He was in terrible shape; battered, bruised, scarred all over. He had undergone a massive operation and had stitches everywhere.”
“To go from there to not just recover but to play cricket again is a miracle”, he concluded.
Pant is a key batter for India, especially in test cricket as he can turn the game on its head. He has an exceptional record in Australia in tests. He has 620 runs in 12 innings at an average of 62 including 2 fifties and a hundred to his name.
Pant has been in good form since his return this year. He has 422 runs in 10 innings and averages 46.90 with 3 fifties and a century. The southpaw will be eager to do well in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
