Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head have been sanctioned by ICC for their heated exchange in the pink-ball test, which took place last week in Adelaide. The game saw Australia securing a 10-wicket victory and leveling the series 1-1.

The incident took place in the 82nd over, when Siraj breached the defense of Head and castled his stumps. Head couldn’t make a connection with a perfectly executed yorker at the right time, and was dismissed for a well-compiled 140 off 141.

After dismissing Head, Siraj gave a fiery send-off to the southpaw in an angry manner. Then, as per Head, he jokingly told, ‘well bowled’ to Siraj; however, the pacer denied the claim. Then, the duo were involved in a mouthful of words, as Siraj apparently hurled something to Head, to which the Australian was visibly seen saying, ‘f*ck you’.

Although the pair reconciled after a heated exchange in the second innings, the apex board wasn’t too kind to the duo. Both players admitted their offences and accepted their sanctions proposed by Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle.

Siraj was fined 20% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The article pertains to using language or gestures, which provokes an aggressive reaction from batters.

Meanwhile, Head was sanctioned for breaching Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct related to abusing a player during an international game.

Kris Srikkanth slams Mohammed Siraj for his fiery send-off

Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth took to his YouTube channel to lambast pacer Mohammed Siraj for his send-off to Travis Head in the Adelaide test.

Srikkanth thinks Siraj’s gesture was not needed, as Head had smashed him and the Indian bowling unit all around the park. He said:

“He has smashed the bowling mercilessly. Hey Siraj, don’t you have brains? What are you doing? Have you gone mad? He smashed you left, right and centre. He hit boundaries and sixes effortlessly in his knock of 140. You’re giving him a send-off after that. Is this called Sledging? What rubbish is this? It’s just madness.”

Instead, Srikkanth wanted Siraj to applaud Head for his sensational knock, which included 17 fours and four sixes. He added:

“One batter has scored 140. Give him credit, and applaud his knock. Instead of saying ‘brilliant knock’, you’re giving him a send-off? As if, you got him out on 10 or 0, as if you planned it and got his wicket! He smashed you all over. The Indian bowlers had no answers to Head’s onslaught. 140 off 141 balls. Look at that. He hit sixes at will.”
