Virat Kohli scored just 3 runs in the first innings of the Gabba Test. Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his views on Virat Kohli’s dismissal in India’s first innings of the 3rd Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Kohli got out to Josh Hazlewood on a delivery which was quite a bit outside the off-stump. He got out on the second delivery of the 8th over of the Indian inning. India had already lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (4 runs) and Shubman Gill (1 run) and needed Kohli to stay on the crease and rebuild the innings.
Chasing balls outside the off-stump has been a big issue for Virat Kohli. He has been dismissed in the same fashion in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Virat Kohli will be very disappointed and upset: Sunil Gavaskar
After Kohli got out to a ball considerably outside the off-stump, Gavaskar said that the Indian batter needed to be patient. He also said Kohli would’ve been disappointed and upset after his latest dismissal.
The former legend said on Channel 7, “If it was on the fourth stump I could understand. This was wide, on the seventh, eighth stump, you could say. There’s no need to play that”.
Gavaskar further added, “He’d be very, very disappointed, he’d be very upset with that. Even before Rishabh Pant faced a ball, the rain started to come down and the covers have come on. If Kohli had shown a bit of patience he could be not out with KL Rahul”.
Virat Kohli is going through a lean patch in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Apart from his unbeaten century in the Perth test, his scores in the other 4 innings are 3, 7, 11 and 5. The former Indian skipper is averaging just 25.06 for his 376 runs in 9 tests (17 innings).
Apart from the hundred at Perth in the first test, Virat had only one 50+ score in tests in 2024. India will expect him to bounce back strongly and help the side in the ongoing test at the Gabba.
