Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the cricket website named for publishing a fake column under his name. The website in question is Cricket Ception, who published an article story titled, “A New Era in Leadership: Bumrah’s Captaincy and Kohli’s Leadership Revive Team India”.
The concerned article saw Gavaskar praising both Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli for their astute leadership skills. However, Gavaskar issued a clarification on the matter and advised everyone to not believe everything that is being put up on the internet. The 75-year-old took to Instagram to post a video, where he said:
“Hi, this is Sunil Gavaskar, and I want to say that there is a website, Cricket Ception, which has printed an article under my name. I have to say that it is completely fake. I have not contributed to that at all, and I want to tell that website to take it down immediately. Issue an apology. If you don’t do that, I will give the matter to my legal team. So, don’t believe a word of what you’ve read. This is a completely fake article attributed to me.”
The article comes after India’s impressive bowling performance on Day 1 against Australia in Perth test. Although, the visitors were all-out for 150, the Bumrah-led bowling unit were sensational to put India on the frontfoot.
Bumrah managed to secure a five-wicket haul, and got support from other bowlers, as India took a lead of 46 runs in the first innings.
Sunil Gavaskar praises Yashasvi Jaiswal for his impactful knock in Perth
Leading by 46 runs, the Indian opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul needed to build a solid stand to keep India in good stead. After carefully steering the team through a tough phase, the duo were in total command as they garnered consistent boundaries.
In particular, Jaiswal employed aggressive strokes in the last hour of play, while charging against Nathan Lyon to launch him for a big six towards the long-on region. The tourists ended Day 2 on 172/0, with Jaiswal (90*) and Rahul (62*) at the crease, and lead by 218 runs.
After the day’s play, Gavaskar praised Jaiswal for his hunger to score runs and convert his starts into a big knock. He praised the southpaw for his consistent form, which has played a key role in the Indian team’s success in the test format. Notably, Jaiswal is the top Indian batter in the current WTC cycle, with 1,497 runs at an average of around 57.
“This boy is special. Where he has come from, the way he has been batting, the way he has been handling things. Against England, he scored more than 700 runs in 5 Tests with 2 double hundreds earlier in the year. He looks so hungry for runs, which is what you want. We as batters used to say, I want a hundred. He says, let me get a 150 or a 200,” Gavaskar told broadcasters.
