Virat Kohli will be a key batter for India despite his poor returns with the bat in recent times. Former Australian pace bowler and one of the legends of the game, Glenn McGrath has advised the Aussies to target Kohli.
The Aussies are known for their aggressive and vocal brand of cricket while they’re bowling. Their whole team comes around for a “chat” with the batters to get them under pressure and make a mistake.
But this ploy hasn’t worked against Virat Kohli at all. We’ve seen it quite a few times now that Kohli has been at his best when provoked by the Australians. His “come at me” attitude has always backfired for the Aussies.
“Virat Kohli is under pressure a little bit”: Glenn McGrath
McGrath talked about Kohli’s recent form and said that he will be under pressure, especially after the recent series against the Kiwis.
The former pacer said, “If they go hard at [Kohli] if he gets in the fight with emotions, there’s a bit of chat out there, who knows he might sort of lift. But I think he’s probably under pressure a little bit, and if he has a couple of low scores to start with, he could really feel it”.
McGrath also said that Kohli is an emotional player and sort of struggles a little with his emotions.
He continued, “I think he’s quite an emotional player. When he’s up, he’s up, and when he’s down, he sort of struggles a little bit”.
It will be interesting to see if the Australian players are vocal with Kohli or not. And, whether this plan works or backfires. Australia hasn’t won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for a decade now. They will be eager to do well in this series in their backyard.
The former Indian skipper averages 47.50 against Australia in test cricket. He has scored 2042 runs in 44 innings including 5 fifties and 8 centuries to his name. He will undoubtedly be an important player for India and will be eager to get back in form in this crucial series.
