Umran Malik bursted into the IPL on the back of his express pace. He will play for KKR in IPL 2025 after SRH released him ahead of the mega auction.
He was a key bowler for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022. Injuries and a dip in form have pushed him away from the limelight and currently no one’s even talking about him that much. Malik made his IPL debut in 2021 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He played 3 games that season and picked up 2 wickets. IPL 2022 was when Malik was at his peak. He played all 14 games for SRH picking up 22 wickets at an economy of 9.03 and struck at 13.30.
After that, in IPL 2023, he played just 8 matches and picked up only 5 wickets. Then in IPL 2024, Malik played only one match in the entire season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
SRH eventually released the Jammu and Kashmir pacer ahead of IPL 2025. Malik was then bought by the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 75 lacs. He went unsold in the first round and then got sold in the accelerated auction.
After KKR picked him, Malik told the Times of India, “I am really happy to join KKR this season, so excited to don the KKR jersey. I just can’t wait. They are the defending champions, and I am sure they will win another title this season. I am grateful and thankful to them for giving me this chance, confident about getting plenty of opportunities this time with KKR”.

Umran made his T20I and ODI debut for India in 2022. He has 13 wickets in 10 ODIs and 11 wickets in 8 T20Is. He seems quite confident about the upcoming edition of the IPL.
Malik further said, “I am going to kill it in IPL 2025. I am confident of taking a number of wickets this time and just want to go· out and perform for KKR. Speed gives me a thrill. I am not sure whether I will touch 160, but I am confident I will take plenty· of wickets at speeds in the 150s”.
Malik has 29 wickets in 26 IPL matches and will be an important bowler for KKR with his express pace.
