The pace bowlers made merry on the second day of the IPL auction for the 2025 season. It was largely the Indian fast bowlers who bagged big money. The experienced players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar were the most expensive Indian buys on the second day.
All the fast bowlers were slated after player number 100 in the auction. Despite that, they fetched big money.
Bhuvneshwar is the only bowler to win the Purple Cap in successive seasons (2016 and 2017) in the history of the IPL. Moreover, no Indian pacer has more wickets than him in the IPL – 181 wickets. It was Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) who were involved in a bidding war and the two teams went up to the price of ₹10.50 crore. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) came in for one bid and bagged the Meerut-born lad.
RCB was Bhuvneshwar’s first franchise when he was bought in 2009. However, he did not feature in a single game before he went on to represent Pune Warriors India (PWI) between 2011 and 2013. Since then, he has played only for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the last decade.
Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar also attracted quite a bit of attention. Mumbai Indians (MI), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went after him. It was MI who eventually bagged the 32-year-old seamer for a sum of ₹9.25 crore. Chahar started with Rising Pune Supergiant before he played for CSK for the last six seasons. They were the losing bidders.
Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar and Tushar Deshpande earn big as well
Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar and Tushar Deshpande went big as well. LSG, CSK and PBKS went after Akash who has been impressive in his short Test career for India so far. His last stint was with RCB where he didn’t get a lot of opportunities. Hence, LSG bought him for a price of ₹8 crore.
Mukesh has been in and around the India squads for a while now. It was PBKS and CSK who went after him but Delhi came in and used their Right to Match (RTM) card. The winning bidders, PBKS increased the amount to ₹8 crore and DC were happy to match that.
Tushar Deshpande who was highly impressive for CSK over the last two editions went for ₹6.50 crore. CSK desperately wanted him back and went after him till ₹6.25 crore. However, it went out of budget and Rajasthan Royals (RR) bagged the 29-year-old bowler.
