The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will commence on March 21 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Due to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerging as the IPL 2024 champions, the final will also be played at the same venue on May 25.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction in November, BCCI had intimated to the franchises that the cash-rich league will run from March 14 to May 25. Moreover, it was also reported that the same window will be used for the 2025 and 2026 seasons as well.

The change in schedule comes on the back of the Champions Trophy getting concluded on March 9. If the IPL 2025 had begun on the earlier date, it would have been too early for the players participating in the Champions Trophy knockouts to join the team camp and also play in the league. It was also reported that the broadcasters requested a late start of IPL 2025, but they have denied all such rumors.

With a new date, the players will now have a good seven to ten days window to give their bodies some rest and also train well to compete against the finest T20 players around the world.

With Sunrisers Hyderabad being the runner-ups, Hyderabad is set to host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator, while Kolkata will host the Qualifier 2 and the final game.

The IPL 2025 is likely to comprise 74 games, which was the case in the last season as well. However, the media rights cycle 2023-27 stated that the 2025 edition will have 84 games.

BCCI is expected to announce the schedule in the coming days, now that the appointment of Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as a secretary and a treasurer, respectively is completed.

IPL 2025 to adopt ICC’s Code of Conduct

According to reports, the IPL Governing Council is likely to adopt ICC-sanctioned penalties for Level 1, 2, and 3 offenses for the 2025 edition. The decision is said to have been finalized in BCCI’s General Council meeting on Sunday (January 12).

A senior official stated (via Zee News):

“From now on, the ICC’s sanctioned penalties will be imposed for Level 1, 2, or 3 offenses. Till date, IPL had its own Code of Conduct, but going forward, Playing Conditions will be followed as per ICC T20I regulations.”

The new rule comes on the back of 10 Code of Conduct violations being reported in the 2024 season. Notably, Harshit Rana was charged with a Level 1 offense and was fined 60% of his match fees after his fiery send-off to Mayank Agarwal.
