South Africa is in a dominating position in the 2nd test against Sri Lanka at St Geroge’s Park. South Africa scored 358 runs in their first innings. They have now scored 191-3 with a 221-run lead at stumps on Day 3.
Sri Lanka then scored 328 runs in their first innings almost balancing the game. It was a collective batting effort from the visitors. Pathum Nissanka was the highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka with 89 runs. Three other batters scored in the 40s but failed to convert it into a fifty or a big score.
Dinesh Chandimal (44 runs), Angelo Mathews (44 runs) and Kamindu Mendis (48 runs) chipped in with important contributions but failed to convert their starts. Dane Paterson picked up 5 wickets for the Proteas. Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen picked up 2 wickets each. Kagiso Rabada finished with one wicket.
With a 30-run lead, South Africa got off to a decent start. Tony de Zorzi and Aiden Markram scored 55 runs for the first wicket. De Zorzi got out for 19 runs.
Fifty for Markam, Bavuma and Stubbs again taking charge for South Africa
Aiden Markram scored 55 runs. He added 41 runs with Ryan Rickelton (24 runs) for the second wicket. South Africa lost both Markram and Rickelton for just 13 runs. Then Tristan Stubbs (36* runs) and Protea skipper Temba Bavuma (48* runs) steadied the ship for the hosts with an 82-run partnership.

Bavuma is the highest run-scorer of the series with 309* runs. At the moment, he’s averaging 103 in the series. Tristan Stubbs is the second-highest run-scorer of the series with 178* runs at an average of 59.33. Both of them have been the backbone of South Africa’s batting in this series.
With an important lead of 221 runs and two days left in the game, South Africa will look to bat for atleast 2 more sessions and take a good lead before inviting Sri Lanka to bat again. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will be eager to restrict the hosts as quickly as they can and then try to chase down the target.
