India U-19 registered a big win against Japan U-19 to open their account in the U-19 Asia Cup 2024. It was the 7th match of the tournament played at the Dubai International Stadium.
Japan U-19 won the toss and opted to field. Ayush Mhatre (54 runs) and young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi (23 runs) got India off to a flying start. They scored 65 runs in just 7 overs before Vaibhav was dismissed.
Then Chennai Super Kings’ latest recruit, Andre Siddharth C (35 runs) came to the crease. India lost Mhatre for a score of 82 in the 11th over. Skipper Mohamed Aman (122* runs) played a captain’s knock. He had a partnership of 58 runs with Andre Siddharth and then stitched 85 runs with KP Karthikeya (57 runs).
Hardik Raj scored a quickfire (25*) down the order. India scored 339-6 after 50 overs. Kiefer Lake and Hugo Kelly picked up 2 wickets each for Japan U-19. Charles Hinze and Aarav Tiwari picked up one wicket each.
Solid performance from India U-19 bowlers to restrict Japan U-19 in U-19 Asia Cup 2024
The Indian bowlers never allowed the Japanese batters to get going. They restricted them to only 128-8 helping their side to a big 211-run win. Japan lost their first wicket for 50 in the 14th over. Then they frequently lost wickets.
Chetan Sharma, Hardik Raj and KP Karthikeya picked up 2 wickets each. Yudhajit Guha picked up one wicket. Hugo Kelly scored 50 runs for Japan U-19. Charles Hinze remained not out for 35.
India lost their first game against Pakistan by 43 runs. Their next match is on 4th December against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. It’s a must-win game for India to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.
