KL Rahul’s message to team management ahead of pink ball test

Team India celebrating a wicket during the first BGT test at Perth.

Indian batter KL Rahul did a great job in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth. Rahul scored 26 runs in the first innings and 77 runs in the second.

He looked really solid at the top for India and laid the foundation for a big win for the visitors. KL Rahul has batted in every position in the top 6 throughout his career.

He even started wicket-keeping as per the team’s requirements and bats in the middle order in ODIs despite being an opener. It will be interesting to see Rahul’s batting position in the Adelaide Test with Rohit back in the side.

He said in the press conference, “I just want to be in the playing XI. Just fit me in. I wanna go out there and bat and play for the team. Go there and try and see what I need to do to get runs in a particular situation. I want to keep my game as simple as I can. Luckily I have batted in different positions”.

He further added, “Early on, when I was asked to bat at different positions, it was a bit of a challenge, mentally. How to play those first 20-25 balls? What shots can I play? How early can I attack? Those things were a bit tricky earlier, but now that I have played in different formats all over the world, it has gotten better. I know the importance of getting through those first 25 – 30 balls”.

KL Rahul may open, Rohit Sharma in middle order for Adelaide test

Skipper Rohit Sharma who missed the first test is back with the squad for the pink ball test. Usually, Rohit opens with Yashasvi Jaiswal but Rahul did a splendid job in the first game.

With that in mind, there are reports that Rohit Sharma may move down in the middle order with KL Rahul continuing to open at the top alongside Jaiswal.

KL Rahul did a great job opening the innings in the first test at Perth. He scored 26 and 77 runs in the two innings respectively.

On his batting position in the 2nd test: “I have been told (where I would bat), but I have also been told not to share it with you”.

The 2nd test between Australia and India will be a pink ball test at the Adelaide Oval. It will be the first pink ball test for KL Rahul.

He said, “This will be my first pink ball Test match. I don’t have the game experience that some other players have in the team.

It is just about speaking to the guys and getting to know what were the things that they found hard and how they managed to adjust· and make changes. In practice, I felt that it was a little different in terms of how you watch this ball and pick it up from the bowler’s hand”.
