The Indian cricket team and injuries have a strong connection in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Almost all the players got some sort of injury during the last series down under.
Now the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy hasn’t even started yet but the Indian squad has suffered a few injury concerns.
The latest one being pacer Khaleel Ahmed who was in the traveling reserves. He has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 due to an unspecified niggle. Left-arm pacer Yash Dayal has joined the squad as Khaleel’s replacement.
Yash Dayal was part of India’s squad in the test series against Bangladesh at home. He was also included in the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa. Interestingly, he is yet to make his international debut.
According to a source to PTI, India need a left-arm pacer for practice to prepare for Mitchell Starc. WIth Khaleel out, Dayal is a like to like replacement.
“It was a like for like replacement because the Indian team needs to do simulation for Mitchell Starc. Dayal was originally supposed to play the A Test but was sent to South Africa. If Khaleel can’t bowl then there was no point of keeping him back”.
Shubman Gill doubtful for first match of Border Gavaskar Trophy
Middle order batter Shubman Gill injured his finger during the intrasquad game at WACA. His participation in the first test is doubtful. With Rohit Sharma already unavailable for this test, India may have an inexperienced top 3 in the Australian conditions.
Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal also felt a bit of a jerk in his shoulder while batting. But thankfully it’s nothing serious and he’s fully fit and available. KL Rahul also got hit on his elbow during the first day of the intrasquad match at the WACA.
The first test will start from 22nd November at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
