Kyle Mayers, an all-rounder for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SNP) made an unbelievable running catch that sent St. Lucia Kings (SLK) captain Faf du Plessis back to the pavilion during the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match held on Sunday, September 1 at St kitts. After posting a huge total of 201/3 in their 20 overs, SNP took two wickets on Mayers’ bowling in the third over of the second innings.
However, the all-rounder had more tricks up his sleeve. Du Plessis was caught out by a quick delivery from Anrich Nortje in the fourth over. Mayers dashed through wide mid-on to make a magnificent catch. The commentators and crowds were pleased with what they saw from afar. Wayfaring players cheered as SNP brought down SLK’s score to 20/3 after 3.2 overs.

The veteran Mayers opened the innings with a fantastic 92 off just 62 balls, which included six fours and seven sixes, helping set up a massive total of more than 200 for SNP. The 31-year-old partnered Evin Lewis for an impressive 199 run partnership, where Blues batted first scoring 100 not out from only 54 deliveries.
Last time, Mayers was awarded as Player of the Match in SNP’s five-wicket. It was also his second time winning that award this tournament. Earlier he received it in its curtain raiser when he scored strikingly within the last over with an amazing 39 runs from 24 balls played against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
Kyle Mayers’ outstanding all-round performance proves futile
Unfortunately, Kyle Mayers’ amazing effort with both the bat and ball in addition to his fielding skills did not result into victory as SNP squandered a precious opportunity for a win against St. Lucia Kings. It was their second consecutive loss in the 2024 CPL. Following his 92 runs with the bat, Mayers also took two wickets and made an incredible catch to dismiss Faf du Plessis.
Despite the home team bowlers reducing SLK to 24/4 in their chase for 202 runs they couldn’t help it win its match. For this reason, SLKs innings were resuscitated when young Sri Lankan and New Zealand international’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Tim Seifert added 103 runs for the fifth wicket in just 43 deliveries.
Both scored 60+ at a strike rate of 194 respectively while spearheading a finishing kick from seasoned all-rounder David Wiese who scored a quick-fire 20-ball knock of 34* not out.
To begin their season on a victorious note, SLK managed to win by five wickets with 16 balls remaining. Additionally, SNP earned only one point in table so far as they failed to continue reining winning streak after previous game victory thus having person coming from either win-loss record’s beginning—recording four losses and three wins including oppression-rich countries’ championships completion.
Kyle Mayers and his SNP will be taking on defending champions Guyana Warriors on September 4th, Wednesday.
