Australia will be against Pakistan in a 3-match T20I series starting on 14th November 2024 in Brisbane. Regular T20I skipper and ODI captain Pat Cummins will be part of the test squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Australia have announced the squad to take on Pakistan. The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa are amongst the senior players in the T20I squad for the series against Pakistan. Nathan Ellis, Sean Abbott and Jos Inglis are also there.
None of the test players will be available so the likes of Cooper Connolly, Spencer Johnson, Aaron Hardie, Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk will be the key players for the Aussies.
Chief Selector and former Australian cricketer, George Bailey said, “This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience throughout this series. We are excited by the mix of experience combined with those closer to the start of their international journeys”.
Who will be new captain for Australia in T20Is?
With both Mitchell Marsh and Pat Cummins unavailable for this series, Australia will have to find a new T20I captain. Glenn Maxwell is the front-runner for the captaincy duties. Other players who can lead the side are the experienced Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Hardie and Matt Short. Both Short and Hardie lead the Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers respectively in the BBL.
Pacers Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis will be available for this series. They missed out on the last white-ball tour against England due to injuries. Spencer Johnson and Sean Abbott will be the other players in the pace attack.
Bailey further added, “It is particularly encouraging to have Xavier, Spencer and Nathan back in the national setup. It’s another opportunity for them to continue to show their ability on the international stage, as they have done in the past.”
Zampa is the only proper spinner in the squad. He’ll be assisted by Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short and Cooper Connolly.
The batting looks settled with the likes of Maxwell, Short, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Stoinis, Hardie and Connolly being the key players with the bat. Jos Inglis is the only keeper in the squad.
