Australia’s star all-rounder, Cameron Green, is keen to make an impact in their upcoming five-match Test series against India at home later this year. The 25-year-old has expressed his confidence and is feeling well-prepared to contribute extensively as Australia aims to beat India at home for the first time in a decade.
“I’m very happy to contribute as much as I can. Physically I’m in a really good place to be able to do that,” Green was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
Notably, Australia skipper Pat Cummis has expressed his desire for Green and Mitchell Marsh to play a key role in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
“We’ll be drawing on Cam Green and Mitch Marsh a bit more. Even someone like Cam Green started in (Sheffield) Shield cricket as a bowler, but hasn’t had to bowl heaps in test matches,” Cummins said.
Green later jokingly labeled the overs between 70 and 80 as “graveyard overs.” He said that they always joke about who between him and Marsh will bowl these less eventful overs when the ball isn’t doing much. Notably, after 80 overs, teams are allowed to switch to a new ball. This allows the team captains to rest their main seamers and bring in alternative bowlers.
“We always laugh and joke between me and Mitch (Marsh) about who bowls those graveyard overs between the 70th and the 80th overs when the ball is not doing anything. We’ll wait and see how we do it this summer,” Green said.
The 25-year-old went on to say that his body is in great shape for bowling. However, he also mentioned that he is happy being a genuine all-rounder and this is just a prospect.
“But now my body’s in a really good place where I feel like I can contribute with bowling. Down the track, it’s an option but at the moment I’m very happy to be a genuine all-rounder. Having an extended break (from white-ball cricket) before a Test tour, it’s going to help for sure. I really enjoyed doing it last year and there’s potentially a chance to do it again this year,” he said further.
