Baroda registered the highest ever team total in T20 history during their match against Sikkim in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024.
Baroda won the toss and opted to bat. They ended with a record total of 349-5 in their 20 overs. Bhanua Pania scored 134* runs for Baroda. He hit 15 sixes and 5 fours in his innings.
Openers Shashwat Rawat (43 runs) and Abhimanyu Singh (53 runs) also chipped in with important contributions. Wicket-keeper Vishnu Solanki scored a brisk 50 as well.
Palzor Tamang and Roshan Kumar picked up 2 wickets each for Sikkim. Chasing a mammoth target of 350 runs, Sikkim looked under pressure from the start. They ended up for only 86-7 in their 20 overs. Baroda’s skipper Krunal Pandya bowled 2 maiden overs and picked up a wicket.
Ninad Ashvinkumar Rathwa and Mahesh Pithiya picked up 2 wickets each. Atit Seth and Abhimanyu Singh Rajput also picked up one wicket each.
Record breaking performance from Baroda against Sikkim in SMAT 2024
Baroda broke many records in this game. They hit 37 sixes in their innings which is the most by any side in a T20 game. Earlier, Zimbabwe had this record with 27 sixes against Gambia.
They won the game by a huge margin of 263 runs which is again the biggest T20 victory by run margin in India. This record belonged to Andhra Pradesh when they defeated Nagaland by 179 runs in 2019.
Baroda surpassed team India’s 296-7 against Bangladesh in October 2024 to become the side with the highest team total in a T20 innings. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 287-4 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024.
Baroda ended up at the top of Group B with 6 wins in 7 games. They have qualified for the Quarter finals of the tournament. They will play their Quarter final on 11th December at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Their opponent is yet to be decided.
