The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, September 24, announced a 13-member panel for the upcoming ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This includes 10 umpires and three match referees appointed as Emirates ICC Match Officials to oversee the tournament, which will be hosted by Bangladesh in the UAE. The much-awaited tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 with a match between Bangladesh and Scotland at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Claire Polosak will lead the group at the mega event, bringing her extensive experience to the role. She has officiated in the last four Women’s T20 World Cups. Alongside Polosak, Kim Cotton and Jacqueline Williams are also making their fourth appearance at the event. The duo have also officiated the final of the last edition between Australia and South Africa.
Meanwhile, Sue Redfern returns for her fourth tournament as well, having served as the TV umpire in the final of the last edition of the tournament. In addition, Sarah Dambanevana of Zimbabwe will be making her debut as an umpire at the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Speaking about the announcement, Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager – Umpires and Referees, said: “The ICC is proud to be contributing to the advancement of women in our sport. To be announcing this all-female lineup of match officials for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is wonderful.
“This group, selected as the most deserving umpires for this event following their recent form in bilateral and other cricket, are some of the very best from around the world. We are confident that they will do a great job at this event. I wish them the best of luck as they oversee the world’s top women’s cricketers in what will be an exciting tournament for all involved.”
The forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will see 10 teams battling it out in 23 matches for the coveted trophy. Before the commencement of the tournament, each team will play two warm-up matches, starting on September 28, in preparation for the main event.
