Arundhati Reddy dropped as India Women announce squad for West Indies series

by Sahil Jain

India Women have announced their squads for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against West Indies at home. The selectors have dropped Arundhati Reddy from both formats. Shafali Verma doesn’t find a place in either squad either.

Reddy has been consistent for India in the recent past. She took seven wickets in four games in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. She took three-wicket hauls in India’s wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka. She returned with figures of 10-2-26-4 in the third ODI against Australia recently.

Verma was omitted from the ODI squad for the tour of Australia. However, her T20I returns were excellent in 2024 and hence, her exclusion from the shortest format comes as a surprise. She has 531 runs at an average of 33.18 and a strike-rate of 126.73 in T20Is this year.

Radha Yadav who did not feature in a single ODI in Australia was the leading wicket-taker against New Zealand at home, taking seven wickets in three games. However, she finds herself out of the 50-over side while she is in the T20I team.

Pooja Vastrakar, Yastika Bhatia, Priya Punia and Shreyanka Patil are recovering from their respective injuries. Hence, they have not been picked in either squad.

There are some new faces in both squads. Pratika Rawal has received a maiden international call-up. She has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket over the last few years. Left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwer who has played four T20Is has been included in the ODI side for the first time.

Nandini Kashyap and Raghvi Bist were handed maiden call-ups in the T20I squad. The former was the third-highest run-getter in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy this season, scoring 247 runs in seven games. Bist was a part of the India A squad that travelled to Australia earlier in the year. She smashed three consecutive half-centuries in the 50-over series.

Priya Mishra, Uma Chetry, Saima Thakor, Minnu Mani and Titas Sadhu who were a part of India’s tour of Australia have been included in both squads.

The series kicks off with the three-match T20I series on the 15th of December in Navi Mumbai. The action will shift to Vadodara for the 50-over format which starts on the 22nd of December. India recently lost 0-3 to Australia and will be looking to bounce back.
