Travis Head hails Jasprit Bumrah's bowling skills

Australia batter Travis Head lavished praise on the Indian ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his special skills with the ball. According to him, Bumrah will go down as one of the finest fast bowlers of this generation.

Bumrah was the stand-in skipper for India in the opening test against Australia in Perth last month. Nothing great was expected from the Indian side after they were all-out for 150 in the first innings. However, Bumrah terrorized Australian batters with sensational swing bowling and completed a fifer. As a result, the hosts were bundled out for 104.

With the sun out and a shortage of green cover in the pitch, India further gained a strong grip in the game. Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and Virat Kohli (100*) helped India to declare on 487/6.

Thereafter, Bumrah picked three wickets in the second innings and got support from other bowlers as well to help India win by 295 runs. Interestingly, he induced an edge from Travis Head, who was well-set at the crease to trigger further collapse of the Australian team.

Head feels it would be great to tell his grandkids that he once faced Bumrah, due to the the challenges posed by Bumrah across all formats. In six Tests, Bumrah has taken Head’s wicket on three occasions, while the left-hander has scored 67 runs off 159 deliveries.

“Jasprit is probably going to go down as one of the greatest fast bowlers to play the game,” Head told reporters on Monday.

“We’re finding that at the moment, how challenging he can be and it’s nice to play against that. It’s going to be nice to look back at your career and tell the grandkids that you faced him, so it’s not a bad series to play in with him. But hopefully I only have to face a few more times,” he added.

Travis Head has credible record in Adelaide

The Adelaide-born batter, Travis Head holds a terrific track record at his home ground in the longest format. He has slammed 494 runs in eight innings at an average of 70.57, with two centuries and as many fifties.

Moreover, the southpaw has scored the most test runs by an Australian batter against India since his first outing in 2018. He has garnered 815 at an average of 42.89 and is a crucial batter for the hosts as they look to win back the BGT after 10 years.

In a recent interaction with reporters, Head revealed that the Adelaide surface suits him more due to the shorter square boundaries.

“Growing up and playing on this wicket, it probably suits my game a bit more being (shorter) square of the wicket and the way that ball can react off the wicket.”

Travis Head further reiterated that he is in a good space at the moment and would look to continue his imperious form in the international circuit. The second test would be played with a pink ball in Adelaide and starts from December 6.
