Team India have retained the squad for the second and final Test against Bangladesh. The Test is scheduled to play at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, starting from September 27.
The national selectors announced on Sunday that they will keep the same Indian team that outplayed Bangladesh by 280 runs in the opening Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As the team is seeking a series win, there were speculations about resting premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah as part of the workload management programme.
“The Men’s Selection Committee has retained the same squad for the second Test of the IDFC FIRST Bank Test series against Bangladesh. The second Test will be played in Kanpur from 27th September,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Speaking of the first Test, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and invited India to bat first. Despite a half-century from Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s top-order struggled against Bangladesh’s bowling attack from the beginning. At this time, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja stepped in and formed a crucial 199-run stand for the seventh wicket. Jadeja scored 86 off 124 deliveries, while Ashwin accumulated 113 runs to help India score 376 runs. Hasan Mahmud emerged as a standout bowler for Bangladesh, who claimed five wickets for 83 runs.
Later, Jasprit Bumrah’s efforts saw India bowled out the visitors for 146 runs. No batter excelled, with veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan being the top scorer at just 32 runs.
In the third innings, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant emerged as key performers, both scoring centuries. Pant scored 109 while Gill remained unbeaten at 119 when India declared 287. For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up two wickets while Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana contributed one each.
Ashwin, who stood out for India in the first innings, starred again in the final innings, taking a six-wicket haul. Apart from him, Jadeja also claimed a three-wicket haul as India bundled out Bangladesh for 234 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Courtesy of his all-around performance, Ashwin, 38, was adjudged to the Player of the Match award.
