Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak feels Rohit Sharma’s lean patch doesn’t bother him, and that every player goes through a similar phase. Kotak recently presided over the role after the team’s lackluster batting performances in the home series against New Zealand and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia.
After the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit’s form has been disappointing in Test cricket, a format which gained significance during this period. ‘Hitman‘ could garner only 42 runs in four innings against Bangladesh, 91 runs in six innings against New Zealand and 31 runs in five appearances in the BGT.
Going through a disappointing phase, Rohit Sharma’s future in Test cricket as a captain and a player doesn’t look too bright. Further, he could only garner 2 off 7 in the first ODI against England in Nagpur on February 6, which compounded his batting woes as well.
Ahead of the second ODI in Cuttack, Kotak cited Rohit’s scores in the last three ODI games (before ongoing ODI series) and feels the Indian captain has been consistent in this format.
“I personally don’t see any issue with his form. In his last three ODIs, Rohit has scored 56, 64, and 35,” Kotak said on the eve of the second ODI at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, as quoted by PTI. “That means he has been averaging over 50 in those matches. We are talking about a player who has 31 ODI centuries. When someone keeps scoring, no one questions when they will fail.”
“Sometimes, a player might have a lean patch, but that doesn’t worry me. Yes, in the Australia Test matches, it was tough, and he got out early, but in ODIs, he has been performing consistently. So, there’s no real concern about his form.”
Sanjay Bangar advises Rohit Sharma to revisit his good old days to get back to form

Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar, who has worked extensively with Rohit Sharma in the past decade, has advised the right-hander on how to return to his original self. As per Bangar, practice sessions doesn’t necessarily help the batter in regaining form, and feels Rohit should watch his old videos, and note points about his stance and technique which helped him gain success.
“A phase has come in his career where he hasn’t scored runs. Sometimes practicing too much isn’t beneficial. He can probably spend a little time alone and watch the phase where he enjoyed a lot of success. Watch some videos and figure out what his habits and routines were,” Bangar advised Rohit Sharma.
“Sometimes all those things prove hugely beneficial if you have to regain your rhythm. You have to remind yourself what works for you. He shouldn’t be too desperate in his thinking,” he added.
