Jayden Seales was exceptional in the first innings of the test fixture between West Indies and Bangladesh

West Indies pacer Jayden Seales created history during the ongoing test fixture against Bangladesh in Kingston, Jamaica. He returned with exceptional figures of 4/5 in 15.5 overs to register the most economical spell in the 21st century.

It all happened in the first innings of the game, as Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. The veteran pacer, Kemar Roach dismissed Mahmudul Hasan Joy (3) and Mominul Haque (0) early. However, Shadman Islam and Shahadat Hossain were successful to steer the team on a cautious note.

Shamar Joseph broke their blosoming 63-run stand by sending Hossain (22) back to the hut in the 39th over. In the next over, Seales bowled a fuller ball, which managed to induce an edge from experienced batter Litton Das (1). These dismissals certainly opened the floodgates for the hosts.

Seales went on to dismiss captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz (36), Taskin Ahmed (8) and Nahid Rana (0) as the Tigers were bundled out for 164. Interestingly, the 23-year-old bowled 10 maidens in the innings and held an economy of 0.31.

Check out Jayden Seales’ dismissals below:

Seales got past Umesh Yadav’s record, which he registered against South Africa in 2015. The Indian pacer finished with figures of 3/9 in 21 overs. He had an economy of 0.42 and bowled 16 maidens.

Overall, Bapu Nadkarni holds the record of the most economical spell in the test cricket history. Although, he didn’t take any wicket, Nadkarni bowled 32 overs and gave away only 27 runs with an economy of 0.15 against England in 1964.

Jayden Seales goes expensive in 2nd innings; Bangladesh hold edge over West Indies

In response to Bangladesh’s 164-run total, Kraigg Brathwaite (39) and No. 3 Keacy Cary (39) provided a good start to the Caribbean team. However, the middle-order failed miserably and they were all-out for 146. Nahid Rana was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets for Bangladesh.

Thereafter, Jayden Seales dismissed Mahmudul Hasan Joy (0) in the first over, continuing his terrific run of form. However, Shadman Islam (46) and Shahadat Hossain (28) provided fine support the side. Meanwhile, Mehidy Hasan Miraz promoted himself to No. 4 and scored 42 off 39.

Litton Das was steering the team well, but was dismissed for 25 off 32 by Justin Greaves. At the end of Day 3, Bangladesh are at 193/5, with Jaker Ali (29*) and Taijul Islam (9*) at the crease. The visitors lead by 211 runs and will look to set up a target of 300+ runs.

The star of the first innings, Seales has conceded 43 runs off nine overs, while taking a single wicket. Although, Shamar Joseph has picked two wickets, he has given away 70 runs off his 10 overs.
