The third and final test in the ongoing test series between India and New Zealand might be the last one at home for India’s Big 4.
Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might be playing their last test at home soil. Virat Kohli will be 36 years old in four days, Ravichandran Ashwin is already 38, Rohit Sharma is 37 years old and Ravindra Jadeja will be 36 in December.
After the ongoing series against New Zealand, India will play a home test in October 2025. It will be against the West Indies. Virat is going through a lean phase with the bat in the longest format. Skipper Rohit Sharma too hasn’t been at his best in tests. Ashwin and Jadeja have been consistent perforers for India and are the architects of India’s home domination prior to this series.
But Jadeja is an integral part of the ODI setup. He alongside Virat and Rohit retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. WIth the Champions Trophy next year, it’ll be interesting to see how he manages his workload.
India will be eager for a win against New Zealand
Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the important members in the test squad but he’s 38 years old currently and time will tell if he’ll play the next home series.
Virat Kohli hasn’t had a great year in tests since 2019. He did well last year for his 671 runs at an average of 55.71. His average hasn’t crossed 30 except for 2023 in the last 5 years.
Rohit Sharma too has struggled for consistency in the longest format. But the Indian skipper has done a good job in the recent times. But age is a factor going against him. He’ll be 38 years old when India plays their next home test series.
India lost a test series after 12 years at home. New Zealand ended the hosts’ streak of home domination and registered their first test series win in India. The third and final test of the series will be played from 1st November 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium. The Indian team will be eager to do well and win this test.
