Swastik Chikara of the Meerut Mavericks set the record for the fastest fifty in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League 2024 during the 16th match against Kashi Rudras. The game was held at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, September 2.

Kashi Rudras won the toss and opted to bowl first, since rain had shortened the match to just 18 overs. Meerut Mavericks faced early struggles when their opener Akshay Dubey was dismissed for a duck receiving just two balls from Shiva Singh. After 1.3 overs, play was interrupted by rain with score at 3-1 for Mavericks. It resumed later as a nine overs per side contest.

Chikara went on score rampage in the sixth over hitting Karan Chaudhary four consecutive sixes reaching his fifty off only 17 balls. The right-handed batsman then hit three more sixes during Shivam Mavi’s eighth over before eventually being bowled out by him on last ball of that over.

The 19-year-old made 85 runs off 27 balls, with four boundaries and 10 sixes, as the Mavericks finished their innings at 118-3 after nine overs.

Vishal Chaudhary excels with the ball for Meerut Mavericks

DLS method states that Kashi Rudras required 117 runs in nine overs to win this match. However, they could have started on a good note but chaos happened after both openers Karan Sharma (4) and Shiva Singh(6) were dismissed by Mavericks bowler Vishal Chaudhary within the second over.

Rajat Sanserwal then made an instant impression during third over when he took out Almas Shaukat (1) as well as Shivam Bansal(0). In addition, Vishal impressed once again in his second over as he knocked down two more batsmen namely Prince Yadav(1) and Shivam Mavi (0). As a result of such bowling spree, suddenly Rudras’ scoreboard registered only 21 runs for loss of 6 wickets after 4 overs had been completed.

However Kashi Rudras managed to get past 66 runs from them over the course of their allotted nine overs but with a deficit of fifty still left behind. Yet in Meerut’s case it was all about one man who did wonders from the ball- Vishal Chaudhary took four wickets conceding only seven runs through his two overs played so far.
