The ODI series between India and England has commenced in full swing at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. However, contrary to everyone’s expectations, the Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli did not take the field along with the Indian team.

At the coin toss, while unveiling the playing eleven, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma disclosed a shocking detail. Rohit said that Kohli picked up a knee injury on the eve of the first ODI and as a precautionary measure, the management has decided to rest him and give Jaiswal a go in the longer format.

India hand debut caps to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana

Yashwai Jaiswal gets a call-up and is playing his first game for India in the longer format. Jaiswal was chosen after his exceptional exploits in red-ball cricket in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. He will join forces with Rohit at the top of the order once it is India’s turn to bat. As a result, Shubman Gill drops to no.3 which is Kohli’s go-to position in the Indian batting order.

Along with Jaiswal, the pace-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana also gets a go making his maiden appearance for India in the ODI format. Previously, Rana debuted in the T20I series coming in as a replacement for Shivam Dube in the fourth T20I under controversial circumstances.
