Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has become the first bowler in international cricket to pick up 50 wickets in the year 2024 in test cricket.
Bumrah achieved this feat as soon as he dismissed Usman Khawaja in Australia’s first innings in the ongoing pink-ball test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia.
The Indian pacer, at the moment, is arguably the best all-format bowler in world cricket. Ricky Ponting recently hailed him as the greatest ever from India and the best of the current times.
Bumrah now has 53 wickets in 11 tests and 21 innings in 2024. He averages 15.24 with the ball including 3 four-wicket hauls and three 5-wicket hauls. He picked up 4 wickets in Australia’s first innings in the ongoing pink-ball test.
Overall, in his test career, Bumrah has 181 wickets in 41 tests at an average of 20.06. He has eleven 5-wicket hauls and five 4-wicket hauls to his name. In ODIs, he has picked up 149 wickets in 89 games at an economy of just 4.59. Bumrah has picked up 295 wickets in 233 T20s at an economy of 6.89.

Jasprit Bumrah leads the chart with 53 wickets in 2024 as of now. England’s Gus Atkinson who made his test debut this year is in the 2nd position alongside India’s Ravichandran Ashwin with 47 wickets.
Atkinson has 47 wickets in 10 tests at an average of 21.31 including three 5-fers to his name. He recently picked up a test hat-trick against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve. Ashwin too has 47 wickets but he has taken 11 tests to do so. His bowling average is 27.25 including three 5-wicket hauls.
Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya (45 wickets in 9 tests) and England’s Shoaib Bashir (45 wickets in 14 tests) are in the 4th and 5th position respectively.
